Joe started playing soccer in 1975 in San Diego and began his club career with San Diego United Villa.  In 1981-82, Joe moved to La Jolla Nomads where he still plays.  He was a 4- year letterman at St. Augustine HS in Soccer and ran the 400m in Track and Field. Joe played in goal for San Diego Mesa College winning 1st team All WCC awards both years before transferring and playing 2 years at the University of San Francisco where he studied Sports Science/ Exercise Physiology and Kinesiology. From 1992-98, Joe played will various clubs in the CISL. He started coaching in 1989 for Villa FC in San Diego under Jerzy Szyndlar and later as the Men’s and Women’s goal keeper coach and the Women’s assistant coach at University of San Francisco. Soccer has afforded Joe the opportunity to play or coach in all 50 states throughout career. When Joe returned home from San Francisco, he reunited with his former coach Szyndlar and started coaching for Villa/ Bratz and as the goal keeper coach and assistant coach a San Diego Mesa College. Joe has been coaching at Encinitas Express since 2016.

"There is more to coaching than just winning and losing. Learning how to win and lose and grow from each experience is the foundation to my philosophy. Many of life’s lessons are found in youth sports such as teamwork, leadership, motivation, cooperation, self- evaluation, compromise, selflessness, community and most important perseverance and resilience to name few. I look to incorporate these values and more when working with young athletes.  Understanding how to motivate each athlete as individuals and aid in their development both on and off the pitch is my primary goal."
