A local to Encinitas, Shane Scarfeo is a coach who brings his passion for the sport to our athletes every day. Shane has played soccer since he was 4 years old and started his competitive career with Express at age 6. He grew up playing at clubs throughout San Diego county culminating in a CIF, San Diego Section, Division 2 championship with La Costa Canyon in 2012 followed by a 5 year stint with the Fresno State Men’s Soccer Club.

During his playing career, Shane began to coach as an assistant and he became a head coach once his playing career was over. He has coached for the Fresno State Men’s Soccer Club,  CenCal Cosmos, and Carlsbad United before joining us here at Express. Shane loves the camaraderie and teamwork that comes with playing soccer and he knows how beneficial it can be for youths to be involved in team sports. 

COACHING PHILOSOPHY:

"My philosophy as a coach is pretty simple, ‘Soccer should be fun and winning is way more fun than losing.’ That being said, the lessons that I hope to teach along the way go a lot further than the soccer pitch. Whether that be teamwork, communication, hard work, winning like a champion or losing with grace, I take the responsibility to teach my players seriously so that they can grow up to be strong, kind, and empowered individuals."
