Rodrigo Da Matta

Rodrigo Da Matta was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, and was raised in the soccer world because his father was a sports/soccer journalist, resulting in him having the opportunity to be around great professional soccer players. He grew up playing beach soccer on Copacabana Beach, Futsal and 9vs9 and 11vs11 in High school, University and Soccer Club, Fluminense.
 He arrived in the USA in 1988 where he was granted a full scholarship to play at USIU, United States International University, first division NCAA. He also played at Mesa College and Point Loma Nazarene University. 
He started coaching soccer at Coronado High School in the 93/94 season, where he was the Director of coaching for Coronado Club for four years. He also has a background in martial arts,  jiu-jitsu, and he enjoys many other sports like surfing and cycling. He is the owner of Rdamatta Fitness Studio, which specializes in strength and condition training and cycling classes.

 

Coaching Philosophy:

"Attitude, Commitment and Discipline are the basic values that I like to bring to the my teams to prepare the young players for the next level of the sport; high school, college and professional level. Educating players with the fundamentals, skills of the game and the mental aspect of the game with cognitive training."
