What an awesome effort at the Temecula Summer Classic by BU12W , coached by Mas Yamazaki. All our boys should be so proud! Took it all the way to the championship game ... Second half shut out was awesome! Truly a great effort by all in the heat. Way to go, boys. Some of the boys took off before the medal presentation, so we're missing a few players in our photo ... Congratulations to Tyler Leslie for MVP!

The Girls Under 12 Blue team brought home their bracket’s
championship for Encinitas Express from the 2004 Encinitas
Rotary Cup, played at home on August 7-9.
The team led their bracket with a win against the Cardiff
Mustangs and a tie with the Hawks to move on into the semifinals.
Facing the Vaqueros in the semifinals, the girls came out
on top 3-2. The weekend culminated with a 1-0 win in the championship

The Boys Under 14 team, coached by Alfredo Hincapie, were
the champions at the 2004 Capistrano Cup, played in Orange
County over the weekend of August 14-15.
Competing against highly-skilled teams from all over Southern
California, the team scored 11 goals in pool play, giving
up only three goals in three games. The boys faced a challenging
Corona United team in the championship game, and after an
exciting game, came out the winners by a score of 1-0.
Congratulations to the boys, their families, the team's coaches,

These talented 7 and 8 year olds are off to a great pre-season
start. In July they took 2nd place in their division at the
Ocean Beach Albion Cup Invitational and just this last weekend
dominated their opponents in the Encinitas Rotary Cup. They
finished with a total score of 37 out of 40 possible points
for the Rotary Cup Championship. They also finished as Champions
of the Huntington Beach Heat Wave Tournament on August 14-15th.
Lots of credit goes to their coach Mike Jones who has over
20 years of experience for 1st and 2nd division teams, and
years of coaching first class teams. He challenges them to
play their best by encouraging them to stay in shape, not
only physically, but mentally as well. So far it's working.

The team coached by Alfredo Hincapie and managed by Elena
Castrellon continued their winning streak this season by winning
the Celtic Cup on January 11. In an overall team effort, the
defense and goalkeeper, Spencer Castrellon allowed only two
goals. The offense led by Cesar Cruz and Edgar Aguilar managed
to score 14 goals in a highly competitive bracket comprised
of teams from Northern California, Utah, Arizona and Los Angeles.
Kyle Stewart was named the Final’s MVP by the Celtic
officials.
The Express BU-13 White team added one more tournament win
in a very successful season by winning Presidio Cup on January
19, 2004. The team secured the title by accumulating 34 points
with a record of: W-3, L-0, T-1; 16 goals scored and only
1 goal allowed against our goalie and defense.

Congratulations to our 2003 Recreational All-Star teams who
competed in the 20th Mesa All-Star Tournament in December.
This is the second year Encinitas Soccer League has sent teams
to this tournament and we showed significant improvement in
just one season. Playing against teams from other leagues,
many who had been practicing together for several weeks, our
teams did an excellent job. In some cases, only one goal made
the difference between going through to the semi-finals.
Many, many thanks go out to the coaches
who went above and beyond in the extra time and effort they
spent with practices, paperwork and the tournament.

Encinitas Express GU15 took the championship in the Encinitas
Rotary Cup GU16 Gold Division in a come-from-behind victory
on Sunday August 9th against Hotspurs USA. The Express, who
had entered the finals as the
undefeated top seed, found itself behind 1-0 at halftime,
but was able to battle back to win the title 2-1. Elizabeth
Mills scored the winning goal from 30 yards out with just
minutes remaining to seal the victory for the Express. Encinitas
outscored its opponents 10-3 throughout the course of the
tournament, with goals being contributed by seven different
members of the squad, and prevented by a strong defensive
backfield.

Encinitas breezed through the initial round of pool play,
winning all their games in cold and windy Lancaster without
giving up a goal. Forward Courtney Heinen was the leading
scorer and midfielder Lauren Sawchenko chipped in a goal on
a breakaway. The play of midfielders Hannah Myers, Allison
Cullington and Stacy Patch, forward Melissa Eidam and defender
Mckinzie Borunda all contributed to Encinitas' strong performance.
The next weekend of elimination games was
played in Bakersfield, and the Express girls won four closely
contested one goal games against strong competition. Goal
keeper Gina Zamora made a number of miraculous saves, and
was helped out by strong defensive efforts from stopper Courtney
Reynaga, sweeper Carolyn Nemerow and fullbacks Lauren Arinello,
Tori LaPlante, Sally Coassin and Laura Plomgren. Encinitas
advanced to the finals in a thrilling 1-0 overtime win against
a team from Santa Barbara that had previously not given up
a goal in the entire tournament.
The first half of the championship game
in San Bernadino was closely contested with Encinitas having
more and better chances but narrowly failing to convert, while
their opponent from Southwest Soccer Club was able to capitalize
on two opportunities they had within a ten minute span to
take a 2-0 halftime lead. Encinitas dominated play in the
second half and was able to reduce the lead to 2-1 when Heinen
converted on a corner kick from midfielder/forward Haley Schmid.
Despite playing the second half mostly in Southwest's end
and exerting relentless pressure (including two shots that
deflected off the goalpost), Encinitas was unable to get the
equalizer.
